Avid outdoorswomen Alycia Bannon conceived her company, GO Adventure Co. at 25 years old. Now 28, she is not only a leader in her community, but the recipient of the 2016 Best New Tourism Business award (Headwaters Tourism), a finalist in the Rural Youth Engagement Showcase from the The Rural Ontario Institute, and a 2016 nominee for Entrepreneur of the Year (Dufferin Board of Trade). Bannon recognized a need for the promotion of a healthier, more active lifestyle among youth in her community. GO teaches children physical literacy through games and activities, affording them the opportunity to explore and appreciate the great outdoors and develop skills such as creativity, patience and tolerance. GO also encourages mothers to get outside with their children by providing safe learning environments to socialize and experiment. Bannon has partnered with, and sits on an advisory committee for Healthy Kids Community Challenge, to promote skills for healthy lifestyles for youth in her area. She continues her participation in sport, as one of the few female hockey referees in her area. Her passion and enthusiasm for physical activity and youth engagement make her a role model to people of all ages.
